A message from Deborah…
Hello choristers,
Well, that was another extremely successful weekend. You sang beautifully – the young verger, Edward, commented about our beautiful singing; the officiating priest on Sunday morning was blown away by our final blast on ‘One Church, One Faith, One Lord’ and commented on how much she enjoyed the mass setting and motet; and the Clergy chappy on Sunday evening gave us a ‘wow, I really loved that, thank you all so much’. It was a wonderful weekend: the Abbey staff were very welcoming (young Edward wasn’t wrong there !); the acoustics of the Abbey are amazing (they make recording quite difficult, but boy, oh boy, the actual sound in the building is wonderful); it’s a great organ and I must say that our organist was brilliant – thank you so much Elizabeth for supporting the choir so well with inspired registration and for your fabulous voluntaries, (so brilliantly played and all on about one hour of time on the instrument, which is absolutely crazy), your playing gives us confidence to sing at our best, your support for the choir, and for me personally, is invaluable. Also, we had some sunshine (a little bit of rain but this is Britain in October) and much jolly socialising went on throughout the weekend – thanks Sally for organising Saturday evening, I’m sure no one envied you that job, but it all worked out very well indeed.
Ed sent me an email and I quote:
“I always know that you, Deborah, are happy as you go into the final rallentando of a piece; you briefly have a beatific smile and nod.
There were a lot of them this weekend!”
There certainly were a lot of them this weekend and very well deserved they were !
See you all this Wednesday evening.
With love and best wishes to all,
Deborah Xx
